IndieCredible Blog Tour: The Fabulous Rebecca Rynecki

Pretty in Pink is so excited to be involved in this great event, helping promote indie authors.  Click on the pic above and it will take you to the schedule for the entire event.  There are some fabulous blogs and authors featured that you do not want to miss out on!  Indie authors have some amazing books, and these authors are putting themselves out there, publishing their works, without the help of a big publishing company.  (And damn are those company's missing out.)  That is why it is so important to support them any way possible, especially by buying their books (duh), helping promote them, and make sure not to participate in book pirating.

Pretty in Pink is even more excited to be spotlighting the amazingly awesome Rebecca Rynecki!  It has been a joy to get to know her over the past few months via facebook, and I hope you find her to be as fabulous as I do.

When 22 year old Alaina stumbles into a world that she only thought existed in her mind, she is understandably a little bit freaked out. Who wouldn't be? Characters that she had written down years ago are walking, and talking, and telling her that she is the only one who can save the princess and the kingdom of Isleen. Um...okay. As she travels down to the southern kingdom with Sir Gabriel, a really hot knight, she falls off horses, has an interaction with an evil witch, gets attacked by a sea creature, and even falls from lust into love. *Due to language, and sexual situations, this book is meant for ages 17+*

“You know,” she stepped back, “I think I can get on the horse myself.”
Gabriel smirked. “Oh, really?”
“Yes. And besides, I can’t rely on you to help me with the horse for the whole time. I need to learn how to do it on my own.”  Alaina took a deep breath, and put her left foot in the stirrups, pulling herself up. “Oh, fuck!” she yelped, and tumbled down to the grass. “Alaina!” Gabriel ran over, bending down to help her up.  “Are you okay?”
“Fine, fine. I just…it’s harder than it looks.”  She wiped the dust off the front of her dress.
“Will you accept my help now?”
She glanced at him, and pursed her lips. “Just this once. So, you know, I can learn how to get on a horse.”
“Right.” He nodded, and knelt down on his left knee. “Step up on my knee, using your right foot.”  Gabriel held his hand out. “I won’t let you fall.” Alaina took his hand, gingerly stepping onto his thigh. She placed her left foot in the stirrups, and pushed off, swinging her right leg over the saddle.
“Oh, my god.”
“You all right up there?”
“It’s, um, it’s rather high.”
Gabriel pulled the reins over to her. “Hold these tight, and don’t let go.”
“No, of course not. I’m not an idiot.” He chuckled, and walked back to Easton; climbing onto the saddle with ease. He led the horse
over to hers, and placed his hand over hers, grabbing the reins. “Are you ready?”
“Um…” she squirmed uncomfortably.
“Are you okay?”
“It’s just…well, heh, let me just say that now I can believe those stories of girls hymens breaking from being on a horse.”
Gabriel slowly turned to look at her. “What?”
“Oh.”  Alaina blushed. “I just meant…I’m a bit uncomfortable being…stretched out.”  She smiled weakly. “Um.”  She subconsciously touched the outline of her mouth as she looked at his.
He licked his lips, and bit down, trying to stop a laugh from escaping. “Do women in your world always talk about things with such ease?”
“I’m not really talking about it with ease, but, yes. I mean, no. I mean, I don’t know.”  She grimaced, adjusting herself on the saddle.
“Uh huh…” Gabriel shook his head. “Right then, lets go.”  He clicked his tongue, and gently kicked his heels on Easton’s flank.  “Oh, and do let me know if your hymen…needs any help.”
“I can most certainly assure you that it will not,” Alaina retorted, and kept her head facing forward they maneuvered the horses onto the beach.

Two years have passed since Alaina and Gabriel left. Forty years have passed in Isleen. The king is dead. The queen's powers are weakening, and an evil sorceress is intent on furthering her own agenda. An agenda that involves a bargain that Gabriel made...*Due to language and sexual situations, this book is meant for ages 17+*

Photo Shoot

Some great shots and outtakes that were part of the photo shoot for the covers for both books.

Author Bio:

A graduate of Hollins University in southwestern Virginia, Rebecca has put her ancient history degree to good use with the Alaina Downs trilogy, a New Adult/Fantasy series. At least that's what she tells herself. When she's not writing, she lives in the Litchfield hills of Connecticut with her husband and young son. She dances, and runs, and upon occasion...sings very badly.

 Interview

Pepsi or coke?
Neither. I don't drink soda. My husband calls me weird because of that.

What inspires your writing?
History. Obscure fairy tales and folklore from around the world. Hot British men.

Do you have a routine or any quirks that you HAVE to do before you can write?
I need to be alone. Like my kid has to be at school or in bed and my husband can't be around me. I like to have a tv show or movie playing in the background that has something to do with the story I'm working on, even if it's a silly movie that has the dude who inspires me character-wise. Also must have a coffee of some kind.

What are your guilty pleasures?
Watching really crappy reality shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, reading British chick lit and going online to Sephora to peruse all the makeup even though I rarely wear any in real life.

Coffee or tea?
Coffee all the way!

How do you handle rejection and/or bad reviews?
At this point I don't pay attention to them. Not everybody is going to like what you write, and not everybody is going to understand what you write and that's completely fine. Believe me, there's nothing you can do about that and I found that I'm happier not stressing over it because it can drive you utterly crazy.

Any words of advice for aspiring writers?
Find a group of other aspiring writers. Read each others stuff. Be completely honest and work together because it's one of the ways that you can learn and grow. Also...read! Read, and research and dive into things that you love. You'll never know when a simple thought can become so much more.

If you could live in any period of time when would it be and why?
The Middle Ages. Minus the whole black plague and no modern plumbing thing. I focused on this time period in college, and I find it so fascinating about how people thought then. I love all the stories that emerged from this time and how they became the familiar tales we know today.

What is coming up next for you?
Well, I'm due with my second child in December so I'm taking a little break at the moment, but I'm planning to finish up the third book in the Alaina Downs series next year and I have two more stories that I want to tell that have been percolating for years. One is a dystopian romance that takes from the myth of Elysium, and the other is a YA about being a senior in high school in the 90's.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would that be and why?
England! Specifically in the Yorkshire area. It's unbelievably gorgeous up there, and it's my ideal perfect escape for a little while.

Any last thoughts, words of wisdom etc you would like to share?
Um...I'm sure I could think of something totally brilliant...eventually. But for now, pregnancy brain is prohibiting me from being sarcastic and witty as always.
